Senufo Bird Mask - Ivory Coast
Birds have a long-standing tradition of being revered, respected and honoured by the Senufo people of the Ivory Coast. This mask is another example of that, most likely used during ceremonies relating to the Poro - a society of initiated men within the Senufo culture - who have been intrinsically linked with the symbolism of the bird, and hornbills in particular.
