Ashanti Stool - Ghana
The stool or seat is one of the most important items of furniture in many African cultures. The Ashanti stool is an example of this tradition, as the Ashanti people hold the belief that the stool is the seat to the owner's soul. When the stool isn't in use, it is placed at an angle against the wall, so as not to invite any passing souls to take rest on it.
These stools are all hand-carved from a single piece of native wood, but each design is unique and tells its own story.
Perfect as intended as a stool or as a low side table, or just a striking decorative accent on its own.
